Starex Manufacturing Ltd has the license to manufacture and market 'Minds Eye Interactive' modular furniture in New Zealand. The modular furniture provides storage, spatial division, seating and work surfaces using linkable units which combine together to form a wide variety of discrete, interconnected learning areas.
Basic module sizes: 600 x 600 mm - storage units
600 x 1200 tables, high units, nooks, light box, settee. Overall height of the tall units are 1200mm - giving young children a sense of enclosure - whilst enabling adult supervision.
Tables may be free-standing, or suspended table tops which 'hook' onto the sides of storage units. Table top heights vary with age of children.
All units are constructed of MDF board, table tops have a laminate surface. Open storage provides children with easy to access materials, which can be kept close to the point of use. Hook-on units - reading, book display, snack top, mirrors, pin-up and magnetic panels - simply attach to the storage units.
The modular nature of the system enables the creation of distinctive environments for different groups of children as well as adaptation for changing needs. Appearance of the units is simple and unobtrusive - a background to the children and their activities. Units are designed to support a diverse range of children's experiences within a visually harmonious environment - a landscape for learning.
